This past week, I attended a master class that is included in my wellness membership called the Perfection Detox. It was run by author Petra Kolber. It is based on the science of positive psychology. First, she went over her journey of overcoming her struggles with perfectionism and helps us explore our relationship with the actual word PERFECTION and to release it.
Then she invites us to explore areas of our life where perfection is helping us and maybe holding us back. She teaches us how to have conversations with our inner critic and how to shift a mindset of rumination and stagnation to a mindset of reflection and growth. Then she gives you exercises to shift your negative thoughts of the past into ones of possibilities for your future. Lastly, she helps us make peace with perfectionism.
Before starting the masterclass, I truly didn't realize how much I would get out of it. It was honestly an eye-opening session for me. It's taught me that I already have everything inside of me and that I don't need to be perfect to be amazing. You see, when I started my nutrition coaching business, I felt in a sense that I had to "look" the part. I had to be perfect with my own meals, look fit and lean. For those that don't know me, I turn 50 in August. My body has been changing these past few years, it's called perimenopause! It's been tougher to stay fit and what I used to eat that kept me in shape, well just didn't cut it anymore. My inner critic was bad during this period. I was telling myself, how in the world can you help people if you can't help yourself!? I now know that I have to give myself grace as much as I give my customers. Change does not happen overnight. It took over a year of logging foods and analyzing them to find out what my problem was with the foods I was eating. But, after listening to this masterclass series, I realized that I was doing all of this for the wrong reasons.

You see, instead of doing it for my health, I was making sure I was playing the part, of the healthy nutrition coach. There is no way any human can be perfect. Mechanics make mistakes, doctors make mistakes and I too can make mistakes and it is OK. I know what I have to offer as a nutrition coach. I've spent nights studying and testing all while working full-time with kids to learn the science of nutrition and behavior change. I don't need to look the part. Because I am healthy. Sure my inner critic will creep up once in a while, but now I have the tools and inner dialogue to combat it. You too can have these mindset tools. It's included in our nutrition, fitness & mindset package. Oh, and we have masterclasses on Calming your mind, The Good Life, and Happiness Habits. I can't wait to try those! If you're interested in joining me as your coach, send me a message. Would be happy to have you in my group!
